Alternative to poorly paid English speaking jobs in Spain

English speaking jobs in Spain

The living in Spain pros and cons are a typical issue for anyone wanting to live the dream on the Spanish coast

We have been planning to move to Spain for many years. At the moment we are going through the process of doing just that, but as many people realise quite quickly, even though the lifestyle is warm, relaxed and very affordable, finding some kind of employment is a different matter.

After months of doing the typical job search in Spain, we realised that unless we wanted to do a very poorly paid seasonal job or telesales we would always find it difficult to find work.

In the end it became clear that buying an existing business or running something from home would be the best option.

START A HOME BUSINESS

So, what is the alternative to the poorly paid English speaking jobs in Spain?

After considering for many months what to do we decided to research work from home jobs in Spain. We realised very quickly that overall we would save money in the long run from working at home.

The main benefits from working at home are:

  • We could choose our working hours
  • We would be close to our family
  • We would save money on:
    • Driving to work
    • Renting an office / work-space
    • Buying food in cafes while at work
  • We would have no stress to learn Spanish

The last benefit is not really a benefit, because after living in a Nordic country for years I fully believe is learning the local language. So, even though there is less stress to learn Spanish if you run a home business, I feel it is a obligation to make an effort and learn Spanish of other social and societal reasons such as being apart of Spanish life.

A few rules you should consider before jumping into any work from home jobs in Spain

These are a list of advise that we found useful. We had to learn the hard way, so hopefully this will help you.

  1. Start a business before you arrive in Spain, so you have some kind of income level before you are in Spain
  2. Try and make it a partnership between you and your partner
  3. Find a place in your home in Spain where you can work
  4. Set out the amount of hours you wish to work everyday and then enjoy your new life in Spain
  5. Make sure the place you are going to buy or rent in Spain has a good internet connection
  6. Keep the business cost down as low as possible when you first arrive and keep this concept in the future
  7. Beware of alcohol in Spain. Remember you are not on holiday you are living in Spain so going out drinking every evening is not a smart way of living. In addition, it will cost you a lot of money in the end.

Living in Spain pros and cons

Conclusion

Yes, living in Spain pros and cons can make you think twice if it is a good decision or not. If after reading this article you realise that living in another country is not for you, that is fine. I was personally not happy about living somewhere new without a clear plan. However, in the end I was glad we did. In the end, planning is the solution to a successful move to Spain.

The main reason for planning to move to Spain is so both you and your partner are on the same page.

For example:

  • What scenario will make you return?
  • How you are going to share your income?
  • How often will you go out?
  • What percentage of you income will you save for a rainy day?

Of course, every relationship has different question about the responsibilities needed to make your live successful in Spain.
